Charles E Brown; a Manx Man at War

Isle of Man World war 1 History

Charles E Brown 1896 - 1918

Charles Edward Brown of 26. Church St, Ramsey,  Isle of Man signed up to join the British Army on the 20th April 1915. His parents were Charles and Leonora Brown, and he was one of five children. He had two brothers, Horatio and Percy, and two younger sisters, Nora and Gladys.

Charles had signed up for the duration of the war. His story is one of great courage but also great sadness, for unfortunately he did not survive. The information on this website is taken almost wholly from the surviving military records relating to him. Several are reproduced in the pages that follow.
